My name's Benjamin, I'm 26 and live in Germany. I have studied Chinese Studies and linguistics for 4 years, but ended up (so far) working as a wholesale trader for crops... yeah, right. ^^"
On on hand, I'm new to Solresol in regard of actual knowledge of vocabulary, but on the other hand, I've known about Solresol for maybe 6-7 years and have read bits and pieces about it. I've found it an interesting and fascinating language right from the start, but I never got so far as to begin actually learning it. Maybe this will change now, after I've found this forum... via the google group... which I found by Garrison's blog. ^^

I really hope to contribute to the development (and thus: revival) of Solresol, and of course learn the language... though I'm not sure yet, where to start learning.

Glad to see you (again).
I don't want to go too heavy on self-promotion, but I'm working on a series of lessons for how to start learning Solresol, so that it doesn't have to be so self-guided. There's not a -ton- of material there yet, but it should help you get started, and I'm planning on continuing to make lessons.
Another bit of self-promotion - there's also some sets of flashcards on quizlet.com that I made: http://quizlet.com/class/56348/, those can help with some ideas for important vocabulary to learn.
Some other ideas are Doresifado's Word of the Day posts he was working on a while ago: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=36, for some worthwhile vocabulary to learn.
Also, our first real discussion we started in Solresol (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=30) would be interesting to either browse or study. It has some vocabulary and discussion of problems we encountered.

The translator here on Sidosi (http://www.sidosi.org/translator) is based on that dictionary. Examining the dictionary itself can be helpful to see the general organization that it has.

Pretty much everything Solresol-related can be found on the resources page (http://www.sidosi.org/resources), if you want to find the original French book by Sudre (Langue Musicale Universelle), or more information about the history or anything. One thing to watch out for is that some of the smaller dictionaries are based on definitions given by Boleslas Gajewski - and they don't match Sudre, and Sudre is our standard. Most of the grammar should be okay to learn from Gajewski, but avoid memorizing words from anything but that main dictionary.

Sorry to overwhelm you with information, but I realized we don't have an official 'beginners start here' page or anything, and it can be hard to figure out where to start. I hope this helps!

If you want, I can try to promote Solresol vocabulary on my Youtube channel. I'm currently doing a series of slideshows for Lojban root words, so it would be the same principle.

Yeah, if you want to do that, that'd be awesome. I'm all for spreading Solresol to as many places as possible; it helps interested people find out about it.
