July 12, 2012 - Redesigned resource list, updated resource list entries

Weekly news on Sidosi's smaller updates
Thursday, July 12, 2012

What I accomplished:
  • Pushed the new Resources page design, listing original sources, author, date published, and date archived (info will be updated as the archiving effort continues)
  • Fixed a few incomplete resource entries (It's about time!)
What's in the works (hopefully I'll actually do some of this soon):
  • More work on the FAQ page (adding and refining stuff).
  • Update the translator database and add more features to the translator.
  • Copy forum design to rest of site (thanks for the suggestion, Garrison!).
  • Fix the recent news and discussion lists on the index page (they work a bit weirdly right now).
  • Continued work on mirroring all resources on the resource list, just in case they ever disappear.
  • Refining the new Resources page design?
It's been a little too long since my last post here, so I'll give you what I have. I worked out a new design for the Resources page entries, and it's pretty much what I had given an example of before. I eliminated all the bullet points, since the expand/collapse button kind of doubles as one. Only the Sources part is accurate at this point, and the Date Archived is half-accurate (the date I posted all those entries, rather than when I archived them).

My next step with the Resources Archive project is deciding on an appropriate mirror layout. Some resources are images, some are PDFs, some are webpages, and some are entire websites. I want to present a consistent format for all resources, no matter their format. I believe how I'll do this is to base the URL on the unique "key" that I assign each resource. This key is also what is used in those hash links at the end of each entry. Here is what I imagine for the common formats:

Code: Select all

Website/Webpage: http://sidosi.org/resource/example_site/index.html
PDF: http://sidosi.org/resource/example_pdf.pdf
Image: http://sidosi.org/resource/example_image.png
Although it would make the resource folder a bit messy, each resource would still be identified uniquely, so it wouldn't be too much of a problem.

Any thoughts/feedback on the new design and my plans? :)

Hey, Dan!
Just wanted to say good job on the resources list; once all the info's there that'll look really sleek.
I think your mirroring system looks fine - as long as it's consistent, I don't think it matters if it looks 'messy'. I'm just glad you're doing it, since it's a great and necessary task :)
We're lucky to have you, Dan! :D
